Magnification: How many times larger the image is than the actual object 

Resolution: Ability to see two objects as seperate objects 

Optical microscopes

• ADVANTAGES:
  • cheap, easy to use, portable, can study whole living specimens 
• DISADVANTAGES 
  • Small magnification ability 
• Photomicrograph: image seen in a light microscope
• Light have wavlength of 400 to 700nm so objects closer together than 200nm re seen as one object 

Calculating magnification 

• IAM- Image/ magnification x actual
