Case Studies

' is an in-depth study of the person or a small number of people. it may include interviews of the person being studied as well as others who can provide information about the personals past or present experiences and behaviours

+ it gives a detailed picture of the individual

+ it can be useful in treating individual problems

+ it helps in discovering how a persons past may be related to the present

+ it can form the basis for further research by studing those who are unusual, psychologists can discover more about what is usual

- it relies on memory, which may be poor or distorted

- the info gained about one person cannot be generalised to apply to other people

- the interviewer may be biased if they are looking for certain info
