Read Only Memory

is a permenant storage area of memory that does not lose data when power is turned off. This is where the BIOS is stored.

Random Access memory

loses its data when the power is turned off

the Basic Input Output System

needed to tell the computer what to do on startup which is why it is stored on the ROM.

What is a peripheral device?

Any device that is not actually part of the computer...

...but can be attaced to it to expand the system e.g. scanners and printers

is where data is transfered between the computer devices or between computers and people.

when computers are connected together so that they can share data and devices such as printers, they call usually called computer systems.
