Glycolysis

- Cytoplasm

1. 2 phosphates are added to Glucose (Phosphorylation)  - from the hydrolysis of 2 ATP

2. Glucose is split into 2 Triose Phosphate molecules

3. Triose Phosphate is oxidised (Hydrogen removed) --> reduces NAD

4. Triose Phosphate converted into 2 Pyruvate

1 of 2

Link Reaction & Krebs Cycle

  • Mitochondrial Matrix

1. Pyruvate is decarboxylated (1C removed in form of CO2) and oxidised

2. Acetate + coenzyme A =  Acetyl CoA

Krebs

1. Acetyle Co A combines with oxaloacetate = citrate

2. Oxidation reduction (Redox) reactions occur in Mitochondrial Matrix

3. One ATP made,

4. 3 molecules of CO2 produced

2 of 2
