B4 - Quadrats and Population Size

Population: All the organisms of ONE SPECIES in a SINGE HABITAT.

Quadrat: A 1m² square frame enclosing a known area.

You can estimate the population of an area by using a quadrat. This is done by counting the amount of the organism you are researching in the quadrat, and then scaling the results up to estimate the larger area.

Here's the method;

1.Count the organisms in the quadrat

2. Multiply the number of organisms by the total area of the habitat in m².

This is one of many methods for estimating population size.
