What is sampling?
Counting numbers in a small area and using it to estimate the total.
1 of 5
What is a common way of sampling organisms?
Using a quadrat- usually subdivided into smaller squares
2 of 5
How does the number of quadrats counts affect the results?
The greater the number of quadrats counts, the more reliable the estimate of the size of the population which also increases validity of the population estimate?
3 of 5
What is random sampling?
A set of random numbers are generated which are used as coordinates on a grid. The grid is marked out and the quadrat is used at each of the random coordinates.
4 of 5
What is systematic sampling?
A grid is marked out and the quadrats are used at points which are evenly-spaced.
