Other point to consider

  • substrates - shavings, straw, towels (non-frayed)
    • straw and shavings are absorbent
      • but bird could inhale them if they move around, could move around if there is a draught
    • don't use sawdust as birds are sensitive to dust, it causes respiratory problems
    • towel more suitable on the floor for perching birds
      • perching birds have a clenched foot when they are relaxed

  • feeding and watering
    • when will it be given?
    • what will be given?
    • how will the feed be transported?
  • minimising stress
    • noise
    • journey time
    • handling
  • vehicle choice
    • e.g., car, lorry, ship, aircraft
    • will need to go into the same part of the plane as dogs and cat so the pressure stays level
    • may need quarantining
  • attempt to get the bird to fall asleep during transport
    • put a towel over the carry cage
