Depite this Freedmen were frequent

Freedmen had to respect their patrons

Can't bring legal actions against them

If childless, had to leave 1/2 of their estate to their patron upon death

• Could be tortured in court
• Had to wear to Freedman's cap
• Couldn't marry into senatorial class
• Couldn't become a senator or equestrian
• Son couldn't become a senator, only their grandson could
