Inspector

"There are millions and millions and millions of Eva Smith's and John Smith's left with us." Metaphorical - there are so many people in society that are just like Eva Smith, people who turn to suicide because people like Mr Birling and his class destroy their lives. (Priestly talking through Inspector)

"We are members of one body. We are responsible for each other." Metaphorical for the fact in Priestley's eyes, we should all be equal and there should not be classes because it destroys peoples lives like it did Eva Smith. Priestley was a socialist and it shows that we should all be equal.

"They will be taught in fire, blood and anguish." Metaphorical - refers to how Eva Smith died and how it wasnt a pleasant death. She drank disinfectant and was in agony. Could also refer to the fact that the War was going to happen and that audience would know that this will happen because it was set in 1912 but perfomed in 1945.
