DNA

Contains are the instructions to put on organism together and make it work

It carries the genetic code that determine the characteristics of all living things

Chromosomes are made from DNA (we have 23 pairs of chromosomes)

A gene is a short section of DNA

Everyone has a unique DNA

PH0TOSYNTHESIS

All green plants have cytoplasts which contain chlorophyll, this is where photosynthesis happens

They absorb light energy, this combines with carbon dioxide & water to make glucose

Plants use glucose for: respiration, making fruit, stored as starch

2 of 4

DOMINANT & RECESSIVE ALLELES

DOMINANT: Capital letter,

takes over,

only one parent needed to inherit disorder

RECESSIVE:

Small letter,

taken over,

both parents needed to inherit disorder (carrier or suffer)

ENZYMES

Are biological catalysts (speed up reaction)

Proteins (molecules of amino acids)

Have a special shape so can fit on substance

Denatured by increase/decrease in temperature or change in pH

They catalyse the breakdown

Amylase converts starch to glucose

Protease converts proteins to amino acids

Lipase converts fats to fatty acids
