Zimmerman et al (2000) methodology

Advantages

  • Methodology: Using a longitudinal study means that P's are compared against themselves.
  • Methodology: Able to understand what different people have gone through.

Disadvantages

  • Methodology: They did an adult interview but the P's were only 16
  • Methodology: Interviews are not as trustworthy as observations.

Evaluation

Zimmerman et al (2000) study has had some good and bad points. One good point with the study is the fact that it was longitudinal meaning that the P's were compared against themselves. This study was done from 12 to 18 months old babies to when they were 16 years old. However a fault with the study is that Zimmerman said the P's were adults 16 years old so were they really adults? Also since some of the P's were going through difficulty, they probably went through some psychological harm so should the researchers intervene?
