  • She is seen as very maternal and respected within the community.
  • Miller describes her as 'highly respected' and 'anyone who dared to cry  her witch' simply had no explanation. this connotes her as trustworthy. Verb 'dared' highlights danger. She has importance in the community and Miller also uses the phrase 'bring themselves' which connotes it is unthinkable to hurt her an convinces the audience she is safe.
  • In Act 1 she enters the room in a dominant postion, 'stand over Betty'. This hightlights her importance and her self confidence.
