Renewable Energy Sources- Tidal Power

Advantages

no pollution
minimal running costs
no fuel costs
very reliable, happens twice a day without fail always near the predicted height
excellent for storing energy for times of peak demand

Disadvantages

prevents boating access
unsightly
altering the habitat of the wildlife
the height of the tide varies so lower tides will provide a lot less energy than higher tides
initial costs are high
wont work when the water level is the same on both sides

Evaluation

Tidal barrages are excellent for storing energy and have the potential to generate a lot of energy. They have problems but are very reliable. the water can be let out at a controlled speed depending on the demand for electricity.
