Advantages

  • speeds up first point of care
  • useful in diagnosis
  • Used throughout care to check treatment is working
  • speeds up paitent care, not waiting for lab results
  • decrease time with doctors, so they can see more patients

Disadvantages

  • Price per test is increases as it uses more resources and staff needing to be trained in these techniques
  • reproducibility is effected as the test is not performed in controlled environments

Evaluation

Bedside testing may not be cost effective or 100% accurate but it allows doctors to get results fast and see as many patients as fast as possible.
