  • She's cruel and ruthless - she influences M. "look like h'innocent flower, but be the serpent under't"
  • She's ambitious and doesn't mind committing terrible crimes to get what she wants
  • She's clever - comes up with the cunning plot to dug Duncan's servants and frame them for the murder, showing ages cruel and heartless.
  • She is a deeply ambitious woman who lusts for power and position.
  • She is stronger, more ruthless, more ambitious than her husband and is fully aware of this. "unsex me here"
  • She humiliates M into killing the king and attacks his manhood telling him that if he carries out this deed, then and only then, will he be a man in her eyes. "are you a man?"

Quotations

  • At the beginning she is dominant and confident - persuades M that killing Duncan is the best thing to do.
  • End of the play she is driven mad by guilt and eventually commits suicide.
  • M and LM's marriage - at the beginning it seems loving and passionate "my dearest partner of greatness". As play develops it's clear she manipulates M into killing Duncan and covers up strange behaviour. When M reveals less about his plans LM becomes anxious and alone and can't come without her husband.
