  • The individuals with the social reaction are important

  • Primary deviance - where no one is labelled
  • Secondary deviance - when you are caught and labelled

  • There are groups of moral entrepreneurs who create the rules
  • The label creates then deviance not the action
  • MERTON
  • Being labelled and treated as a deviant makes the individual more likely to become one - self fulfilling prophecy
  • Deviancy amplification can occur due to inaccurate reporting
