Advantages

  • fertile soil when lava weathers
  • tourist attraction
  • minerals
  • lava flows build new land e.g. Iceland, Hawaii
  • used for generating electricity
  • hot springs for bathing

Disadvantages

  • explosions and eruptions lead  to:
  • dangerous gases
  • loss of life
  • loss of homes, animals, crops
  • disease and fires
  • avalanches, mudflows and floods
  • loss of wildlife, trees and plants

Evaluation

Volcanoes form many useful advantages and help to bring an income to the area by tourists and electricity generation, however, they cause lots of destruction which can cost a lot of money to repair.
