A volcano is an opening in the Earth's crust and pressure then begins to build up. When it is released eg. the result of a plate movement, magma eclodes to the surface causing a volcanic eruption.
1 of 6
How are volcanoes formed?
The lava from the eruption cools to form a new crust. Over time, after several eruptions, the rock builds up and a volcano is formed.
2 of 6
Does lava cool whilst running down the volcano?
The lava that runs out of the volcano cool down very quickly, and then forms rocks like basalt.
3 of 6
Do volcanoes cause tsunamis when erupting under water?
Yes, volcanoes can create tsunamis by releasing volcanic material which generates massive waves.
4 of 6
When volcanoes erupt under water do they damage the seabed?
Yes, they spew out lava, carbon dioxide and any elements into the ocean. The carbon dioxide gets trapped in currculating water, taking it to different parts of the ocean, which then gets caught up in currents and into the enviroment.
5 of 6
Is ash solid lava?
No, ash is created when solid rock shatters and magma separates into tiny particles.
