Failure To Function Adequately +/- table

Advantages

Most humane way of addressing abnormality as it is left to the person to decide whether or not to seek help.
Has an objective measuring system (GAF scale)

Disadvantages

Not the whole picture: abnormality might not be dysfunction alone
Exceptions to the rule: A student experiencing anxiety about upcoming exams may behave uncharacteristically, but wouldn't be regarded as abnormal.
Cultural issues: inability to cope with daily living demands. Statistics show greater psychological problems among ethnic minority groups

Evaluation

Humane way of dealing with abnormality however, doesn't show the whole picture and cannot alone define abnormality.
