Does religious experience prove the existence of God?

Advantages

  • SWINBURNE
  • principle of testimony - believe in others
  • principle of credulity - believe in your self
  • OTTO
  • numinous experience
  • WILLIAM JAMES
  • we can test religious experience and we should believe in the experience

Disadvantages

  • you cannot really test them or prove them
  • naturalistic reacsoning
  • DAWKINS
  • religious experience is not true it could have been a hallucination, drug use extra
  • you cannot always trust people
  • religious experiences in many religions does that mean there all true
  • HUME
  • no present day known miracles or experiences
  • FLEW
  • a bunch of weak testimonies doesn't make a strong one

Evaluation

religious experiences does not prove the existence of God or the divine as there is no proper way of testing the reality or the truth behind the experience. as FREUD said humanity always looks for a father figures and so in times of fear, anger or loneliness we can hallucinate and believe it is God. also drugs and alcohol can affect the experience and so all testimonies cannot be taken seriously.
