Effects

  • Cyasa Habimana said he was the "tool of more powerful men", he wasn't acting on his own free will
  • A poor harvest had spoilt the coffee crop which meant that the 2 ethnic groups had finite resources they had to fight over
  • Not all Hutus were involved in the killing, some even gave shelter
  • This causes prejudices, in Rwanda it's now illegal to talk of separate ethnic groups
  • At the time, they were all given identity cards which will have emphasised their differences

Overall summary

You can see the series of events that may have led to why this atrocity occured. You can't, however, see into their mnds so we'll never know their true motives, we can only assume.
