Advantages
- Desensitisation Strength - Supporting Evidence - Krahe et al 2011 found that ppts who were habitual viewers of violent media showed lower levels of anxious arousal and higher levels of pleasant arousal when watching a violent film.
- Disinhibition Strength - Supporting Evidence - Pinto da Mota Matos and Haase 2011 found that children who watched more TV violence tend to identify with violent TV characters and show more physical agg.
- Cognitive Priming Strength - Practical App - Effective interventions could potentially reduce agg behaviour by challenging hostile cognitive biases and encouraging habitual media users to consider alternatives such as humour or negotiations.

Disadvantages
- Desensitisation Weakness - Contrasting Research - Belson 1978 found no evidence to suggest a link between exposure to violence and antisocial behaviour in a study of teenage boys. EVALUATION - this may not generalise to females.
- Disinhibition Weakness - Other contributing factors - Younger children are more likely to be affected because they are more likely drawn into high action violent episodes without considering motives or consequences.
- Cognitive Priming Weakness - Too simplistic - SLT can provide a more detailed explanation with the role of motivation, degree of impression and suitable context all being contributing.
