Delegated Legislation

Advantages

  • Saves Parliament's Time
  • Access to local/ technical knowledge
  • Faster
  • Increased Consultation
  • Easy to amend
  • Acts as a safety net

Disadvantages

  • Undemocratic
  • Sub- delegation
  • Difficult Language
  • There's so many that the public is unaware
  • Lack of publicity
  • Fast Paced
  • Henry VIII Powers

Evaluation

Although Delegated Legislation allows for more targeted and specific creation of laws, it has become so normalised that it is almost overused. The extremely fast paced nature of it means that the public is completely unaware and can't be expected to become aware of all the laws that are being made. For that reason, I don't believe that delegated legislation is as useful as it could be and that it's disadvantages outweigh the advantages.
