Causes
- North-Indian ocean-tropical cyclone began to form
- Area of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal ( April 27th). Warm waters and a low vertical wind sheer allowed tropical cyclone to develop
- Winds picked up to over 200km/hr until cyclone Nargis made landfall on May 2nd
- Mygomar has a low continental shelf meaning there was a greater storm surge

Effects
- Economic- $10 Billion worth of damage-Majority of the population worked on the flooded rice fields therefore they lost their harvest and income-Price of rice increased by 70% due to limited amount available-75% of buildings collapsed but on the delta 95% collapsed and 1,163 temples destroyed
- Enviomental-Rice fields were flooded on the Irawaddy Delta and estimated that Nargis impacted 65% of the country's rice fields- Strong winds up to 135mph and a storm surge of 7.6m , heavy rainfall of 600mm-Flood waters traveled an estimated 40-50 km in land from the coast-Farmland, fisheries and livestock were destroyed
- Social- Lack of food, water for survivors- Many children were orphaned-Diseases such as cholera killed many survivors- A death toll of at least 138,000- 2.4 million people severely affected, structural damage and over 1 million homeless
