Background:
Late April 2008: very low pressure formed in bay of Bengal, - Myanmar is one of the poorest countries in the south east Asia (Pop 55 million)

Causes:
- Sea temp were particulary warm in April 2008, (28)- On the 2nd May torrential storms 217KPH winds hit irrawaddy Delta.

Primary effects:
At least 125,000 deaths, 1.5 million affected, 95% buildings(mainly wooden) destroyed , Millions of people were made homeless

Secondary effects:
- Local infrastructure was largely destroyed causing leakage which contaminated rice feilds- e.g. crops, Elec lines were destroyed , mosquitoes breed by the contamination of water.

Management:
More than one week Nargis hit Myanmar 1 in 10 people received aid. - Army stopped journalists from covering the disaster for tv main help targeted in large cities.
