  • Viruses
    • Why do we get some viruses every year?
      • Some viruses are constantly mutating. This causes change to the structure of the virus. The existing antibody no longer fits. The virus goes undetected and so the body becomes infected.
        • Flu is a good example of this. Flu vaccines are made every year for the new mutated flu virus.
    • Some key virus terms...
      • Pandemics - Across continents.
      • Epidemics - Across countries.
      • Active immunity - After infection or vaccination.
      • Passive immunity - Infected with antibodies made in the lab. Passive immunity does not last long.
