- To make potable water we need to reduce the concentration of dissolved minerals and salts in the water. We do not however need to completely eradicate the minerals and salt form the water. To make water potable we need to drastically reduce the number of microbes in the water. Potable does not mean its chemically pure it means it is drinkable and safe for human consumption. Chemically pure would be just made of H2O molecules.
- Saudi Arabia has low levels of rainfall so fresh water supplies can not be relied on. As an alternative sea water is used. 2 desalination methods: 1.Distillation-boiling sea water creates steam which then condenses to give pure water.
