  • Digital Devices
    • The Uses
      • Communication
        • Texting
        • Social networking sites
        • Media messaging
        • Voice or video calls
        • E-mails
      • Travel
        • Global Positioning System (GPS)
        • Tracking the location of cars and vans
        • Geotag images
      • Leisure
        • Displaying photos with digital frames
        • Taking photos or videos with digital cameras or camcorders
        • Keeping in touch through social networking sites
        • Reading books with ebook readers
        • Playing games with consoles or computers
        • Downloading music
    • Using Them
      • Audience and Purpose
        • When companies design a digital device they have to think about who it is for, the AUDIENCE and how they will use it the PURPOSE
        • MOBILE PHONES
          • A teenager might want internet access for accessing social networking sites
          • A business person might wants a qwerty keyboard so they can easily send emails
          • An older person may want a larger screen and an easy-to-use interface
        • User Requirement: -Some people may want as big a widescreen as possible but they need something small so that they can carry it round in their pocket.
          • What a person wants and needs are two completely different things. It is important to weigh up what they want against what they need
      • Factors to Consider
        • Battery life
        • Cost
        • Purpose
        • User interface
        • Connectivity
        • Compatability
        • Speed of internet connection
        • Storage
        • Security
    • Common Features
      • Processor
        • There is a processor in all dogotal devices, from desktop computers to mobile phones
        • It controls all the functions of the device
        • There are specialist microprocessors for different devices
      • Internal Memory
        • While the microprocessor is working it needs to store the program instructions and data in its INTERNAL MEMORY.
        • Different devices have different amounts of internal memory which is measured in bytes
        • BYTE  KILOBYTE    MEGABYTE GIGABYTE    TERABYTE
          • They go up in thousands
      • Capacity
        • Digital devices are storge devices. in addition to their internal memory, digital devices contain components that can store data
        • For example, computers contain high capacity hard disk drives to store terabytes of data
        • Hard disk drives tend not to be used in portable devices because they contain moving parts and can be easily damages
      • Flash memory
        • Flash memory is  type of peripheral that is ideal for portable devices because....
          • It does not lose data when turned off
          • It has no moving parts so cannot be easily damaged, SOLID STATE
          • It is removable and can be used to transfer data between devices
      • Types of Flash Memory
        • Secure digital card (SD)
        • Micro SD cards
        • SDXC (extended capacity secure digital card)
        • USB flash drive or memory stick
        • SDHC (high capacity secure digital card)
