  • BRITAIN 1930-1939
    • 1932- highest unemployment rate
      • 3 million unemployed
    • We depended on exports
      • We* could only make a profit if we could sell to worldwide markets
        • *(Coal, iron, steel, etc industries)
    • From the 1920s, we faced competition who had more equipment  and were bigger than tiny Britain's goods
      • Which the government made worse...
        • By letting anything from another country come into Britain freely
          • 'Free trade'
            • Yet… Britain still had to pay for their exported goods
              • Therefore not making a profit, more like a loss
