- The Nervous system is made of
- sense organs
- detect stimuli-- a change in the environment
- a stimulus can be light, sound, touch or change in position or temp
- eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin
- contain receptors- sensitive to stimuli- change stimulus energy to electrical impulses
- Eyes- Light Receptors-> sensitive to light.
- These cells have a nucleus, cytoplasm and cell membrane
- Ears- sound receptors, balance recpetors
- sensitive to changes in position and sound
- Nose- smell receptors--> sensitive to chemical stimuli
- Tongue- taste receptors. chemical stimuli
- sensitive to bitter, salt, sweet, and sour + the taste of savoury l
- Chemical Stimuli
- sensitive to bitter, salt, sweet, and sour + the taste of savoury l
- Skin- sensitive to touch, pressure, pain and temperature change

- Skin- sensitive to touch, pressure, pain and temperature change
- sense organs are not receptors- they contain them- eyes contain- light receptors etc
- detect stimuli-- a change in the environment
- Effectors
- Muscles and Glands
- Muscles contract as a response to nervous impulses
- Glands secrete hormones as a response to nervous impulses
- Muscles and Glands
- Motor Neurones
- nerve cells that carry signals from the CNS to effector muscles and glands
- Relay neurones
- cells that carry signals from sensory neurons to motor neurons
- Sensory Neurons
- C ells that carry signals as electrical impulses from receptors to the CNS
- the Cental nervous system-- where all the information from sense organs is sent.
- where reflexes and actions are coordinatied
- Consists of the Brain and the Spinal cord
- Neurones transmit information as electrical impulses to and from the cns
- "instructions" from the CNS are sent to the effectors which respond accordingly
- sense organs
