  • The Motor Effect
    • A current in a magnetic field experiences a force
      • The force experienced by a current-carrying wire in a magnetic field is known as the motor effect
      • Increase force by increasing the current or magnetic field
      • The force of the wire is at 90 degrees to both the wire and magnetic field
      • Reverse direction of current or magnetic field- reverse the direction of the force
      • To experience the full force the wire has to be at 90 degrees to the magnetic field
    • If the wire runs parallel to the magnetic field it won't experience any force at all
    • Fleming's left hand rule
      • First= field
      • Second = current
      • thumb = motion
