What is the motor effect?
When a wire carrying an electric current in a magnetic field it experiences the motor effect
1 of 12
When is this force maximum?
when the wire is at a 90 degree angle to the magnetic field
2 of 12
What method do we use to determine the direction of force?
Fleming's left hand rule
3 of 12
What does the first finger represent?
Magnetic Field
4 of 12
Second finger?
Current
5 of 12
Thumb?
Movement (Direction of force)
6 of 12
How can the size of the force be increased?(2 ways)
Increase the size of a magnetic field, increase size of current
7 of 12
How can the direction of force on the wire be changed?(2 ways)
Direction of current or magnetic field is changed
8 of 12
In a simple motor how can speed of the motor be increased?
Increasing the size of the current
9 of 12
How can we reverse the motor?
By reversing the direction of current
10 of 12
When a current passes through the coil, why does the coil spin?
A force acts on each side of the coil due to motor effect. The force on one side is the opposite to the force on the other side
11 of 12
What does this cause?
This causes the coil to spin causing a motor effect
