  • The human kidney
    • The body had two kidneys, the filter the blood, excreting substances you do not want and keeping substances that the body needs.
    • A healthy kidney produces urine by:
      • First filtering all the blood
        • Reabsorbing all the sugar
          • Reabsorbing the dissolved ions needed by the body
            • Reabsorbing as much water as the body needs
              • Releasing urea, excess ions and water in the urine.
    • The urine is temporarily stored in the bladder before being removed from the body
    • The vena cava is connected the kidneys by the renal vein which carries blood away from the kidney, after unwanted substances have been removed
    • The aorta is connected to the kidneys by the renal artery bringing blood containing substance which needs to be filtered by the kidneys
    • The urethra is the tube through which urine passes out of the body
    • The ureter is the tube through which urine passes from the kidneys to the bladder
