  • Solar Systems, Stability of Orbital Motions ad Satellites
    • There are 8 planets in our solar system that orbit the sun, and an unknown number of dwarf planets.  gravitational field around the planets is strong enough to pull in all nearby objects however the gravitational field around the dwarf planets is not strong enough
    • The sun lies at the centre of our solar system. It makes up approximately more than 99% of the mass of our solar system sun is the only star in our solar system
    • Space Physics
      • The Sun was formed from a cloud of dust and gas(called a nebula). CLOUD OF DUST AND GAS The gas and dust s collapsed. The cloud suddenly decreased in volume as the pressure in the cloud increased. his formed a protostar.
        • MAIN SEQUENCE- Materials continued to collide until the temperature and pressure was high enough for the hydrogen nuclei to fuse forming helium.(nuclear fusion). The star then went into a table period called the Main Star Sequence The energy released from nuclear fusion in the sun keeps the suns core hot. The sun is in its stable main sequence phase .meaning the outward energy released from nuclear fusion is balanced by the force of gravity pulling the sun inwards
    • There are 4 rocky planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars. (Smaller planets)
    • There are 4 gas planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.(Larger planets)
    • Comets and Asteroids also orbit around the sun.
