- Respiration (NOT BREATHING!)
- Aerobic
- Always happening in plant and animal cells.
- Uses:
- BUILD large molecules from smaller ones.
- For MOVEMENT in animals
- For WARMTH in animals and birds.
- BUILD sugars, nitrates & other nutrients in amino acids for proteins
- For ACTIVE TRANSPORT
- Oxygen + glucose= carbon dioxide + water (+energy)
- Increased demand in oxygen during exercise results in:
- Increased Heart rate
- Quickens blood flow to muscles
- These increase rate of removal of CO2 and increase supply of O2 and glucose.
- Increased death and rate of breathing.
