  • Respiration (NOT BREATHING!)
    • Aerobic
      • Always happening in plant and animal cells.
      • Uses:
        • BUILD large molecules from smaller ones.
        • For MOVEMENT in animals
        • For WARMTH in animals and birds.
        • BUILD sugars, nitrates & other nutrients in amino acids for proteins
        • For ACTIVE TRANSPORT
      • Oxygen + glucose= carbon dioxide + water (+energy)
    • Increased demand in oxygen during exercise results in:
      • Increased Heart rate
        • Quickens blood flow to muscles
        • These increase rate of removal of CO2 and increase supply of O2 and glucose.
      • Increased death and rate of breathing.
        • Increased Heart rate
          • Quickens blood flow to muscles
          • These increase rate of removal of CO2 and increase supply of O2 and glucose.
      • Glycogen stored in muscles converted back to glucose.
