  • Research Methods
    • sampling methods
      • opportunity sampling - whoever was there at the time
      • random sampling- participants who were selected at random and not in a specific way
      • snowball sampling- when participants bring people whom they know so there is a bigger sample
    • experimental designs
      • RMD- where 2 or more groups of participants take part in both conditions
      • IMD- each group only takes part in one condition
      • MPD- participants are matched by similar characteristics.
    • data
      • qualitative data- more literacy based data such as written up reports or paragraphs
      • quantitative data- the numeracy and the statistical data
    • observations
      • behavioural categories- the categories which are devised about behaviour you're going to observe
      • coding frames- abbreviated words which define the behavioural categories.
      • time sampling- observing people for a set amount of time and writing down everything they do in that period
      • event sampling- only recording what you see when something happens.
    • correlations
      • positive correlation is when the correlation pattern is close and goes in a diagonal line from 0 upwards
      • negative correlation is when the correlation pattern is close and when x is at 0 it is at a really high number and then as x gets bigger y gets smaller
    • experiments
      • laboratory experiment is based in a lab environment which is highly controlled
      • field experiments- in a more natural setting, a place where youre likely to see the participants
      • Quasi experiments- lack control elements but has similarities to the other two types of experiments.
