  • Research Design
    • Independent Measures
      • Participants are randomly allocated to different experiments conditions
        • Each group only takes part in one condition
      • Strengths
        • No chance of order effects
        • Less chance of demand characteristics
      • Weaknesses
        • Individual differences
        • Researchers may need to collect more people (time consuming)
    • Repeated Measures
      • Participants take part in both experimental conditions
      • Strengths
        • No individual differences (lower)
        • Fewer participants needed
      • Weaknesses
        • Order effects (boredom, fatigue, practice effect)
        • Demand characteristics likely
    • Matched Pairs Design
      • Finding out information about participants and recruiting others with the same qualities
        • Age, religion, IQ etc may be some factors that the participants are matched on
        • Everyone in the original group has a 'twin' in the other
      • Strengths
        • Cancels out individual differences
        • No order effects
        • Less chance of demand characteristics
      • Weaknesses
        • Individual differences will still be apparent
        • Researcher will need more participants (time consuming)
