  • Renewable and Non-renewable energy resources
    • Renewable
      • Solar
        • solar cells convert solar energy into electrical energy
        • advantages- renewable, no pollution.
        • disadvantages- expensive, relies on sunlight
      • Wind
        • wind turns turbines, turbines turn generators
        • advantages- renewable, no pollution
        • disadvantages- spoils landscape, unreliable
      • Hydroelectricity
        • generated by falling water in places where water can be trapped in high reservoirs
        • advantages- available any tiime
        • disadvantages- won't work if reservoir dries up
      • Tidal
        • turbines in a dam turn as the tide flows in and out
        • advantages- renewable, sustainable
        • disadvantages- not available all the time
      • Wave
        • generates electricity when floating electrical generators move up and down
        • advantages- renewable, no pollution
        • disadvantages- difficult to produce large amounts of electricity
      • Geothermal
        • heat transferred from underground rocks heats water, creates steam, turns turbines, turns generators
        • advantages- renewable, sustainable
        • disadvantages- creates pollution
    • Non- renewable
      • Nuclear
        • advantages- cheap, does not produce carbon dioxide
        • disadvantages- dangerous, non renewable
      • Fossil fuels
        • disadvantages- pollution, non renewable
