    • It can occur due to isostatic changes like a land uplift, or eustatic changes such as a fall in sea level.
      • Due to these changes the river has further distance to decrease from source to base so it gains potential energy
        • Potential energy leads to vertical erosion becoming dominant
    • This can lead to features such as Knick points, river terraces and incised meanders
