    • poor communications
    • Geographically remote
    • under the threat of invasion by Scotland
      • the border was so extensive that its was split into three; the western, middle and eastern.
    • Henry 7th was a usurper, this made him particularly vulnerable to invaders
      • Yorkshire in particular was  very loyal to Richard 3rd
