- Candidates must meet certain requirements:
- natural born citizen of US
- Trump questioned Obama's citizenship
- at least 35
- 14 years residency
- Extra consitituional
- political experience
- Obama previously senator for honolulu. Clinton was secretary of state. Trump has none.
- major party endorsement
- personal characteristics (white? male? married?
- ability to raise lots of money - or family money (Trump)
- effective organisation (cannot use the parties organisational structure before they are the chosen candidate.
- oratorical and telegenic
- sound and relevant policies
- political experience
- natural born citizen of US
- 4 years (article II) - limited to 2 terms
