- Monomers and Polymers
- Monomers are smaller units from which larger molecules are made.
- Examples of monomers are monosaccharides, amino acids and nucleotides.
- Polymers are molecules made from a large number of monomers joined together.
- Polymers are formed by a condensation reaction between two molecules forming a chemical bond, water is a product of this reaction.
- Monomers are made from polymers by a hydrolysis reaction which breaks a bond between two molecules and requires the use of water.
- Examples of polymers are disaccharides, DNA and proteins.
