  • Monomers and Polymers
    • Monomers are smaller units from which larger molecules are made.
    • Examples of monomers are monosaccharides, amino acids and nucleotides.
    • Polymers are molecules made from a large number of monomers joined together.
    • Polymers are formed by a condensation reaction between two molecules forming a chemical bond, water is a product of this reaction.
    • Monomers are made from polymers by a hydrolysis reaction which breaks a bond between two molecules and requires the use of water.
    • Examples of polymers are disaccharides, DNA and proteins.
