- Measuring Diversity
- Species Richness
- Number of different species in a habitat
- High no. of dif species = greater species richness
- Is measured by taking taking random samples and counting how many different species in it
- Species Evenness
- Abundance of each species. How many individuals present in each species
- Is measured by taking random samplings from a habitat and counting the number of individuals
- The more similar the poulation size, the greater the species evenness - similar size means equal distribution
- Simpsons Index
- Formula
- SI takes both species evenness and richness into account
- Always from 0 to 1. Closer to 1 = diverse
- More species evenness and richness means higher value for D
- Species Richness
