  • Juries
    • Qualifications
      • Set out by the Juries Act 1974: Must be 18-70, On the electoral register and must have lived in the UK for 5 years since their 13th birthday
    • Disqualification
      • Criminal convictions of 5yrs +, On bail, don't have a good understanding of English, if you have physical disabilities e.g. deafness.
    • Deferral
      • People can defer their jury role if they have Examinations, Surgeries or a pre-booked holiday
    • Excusals
      • Full timed member of the armed forces, served in the last 2yrs, 65 +, incompatible religious beliefs, members of parliament, some members of the medical profession.
    • Vetting
      • Randomly selected by the Central Juror Summoning Bureau, 2 types of checks - Criminal Records Check (automatically done) and a more detailed one which is the Authorised Jury Check.
      • Selection
    • Challenged
      • 1) to the Array - Prosecution or Defence. 2) For Cause - Prosecution or Defence challenge any or all of the jurors. 3) Prosecution have a right to stand - Juror goes to the bottom of the waiting list.
