    • Universality
      • Any underlying characteristic of human beings that can be applied regardless of upbringing
    • Gender bias
      • When research offers a view that does not justifiably represent the experience of men and women
    • Androcentrism
      • 'Male-oriented', when normal behaviour is judged according to a male standard
    • Alpha bias
      • Focusses on differences between men and women - tends to exaggerate the differences
    • Beta bias
      • Focusses on similarities between men and women - tends to minimise the differences
    • Ethnocentrism
      • Judging one cultural by the standards of one's own culture - may lead to prejudice
    • Etic
      • Approach looks at behaviour from outside of a given culture and attempts to describe those behaviours as universal
