  • How does Mrs Birling respond to the Inspector's visit?
    • Mrs Birling doesn't like the way the Inspector is asking everyone questions and looking down at her.
      • She's not very tolerated by this because of class
        • She is a higher class then then Inspector, so she wants the inspector to respect her
    • Mrs Birling don't want to associate with the lower class
      • 'Girls of that sort'
      • It was all about class in that era, class meant everything. The higher class reflected themselves as more superior to anyone below them.
    • She don't want to change. She's stuck in her ways.
      • She has all her needs and she don't need to take responsibility for the lower-class, they can suffer.
        • 'I have done nothing i'm ashamed of'
    • Mrs Birling shown to be arrogant and very self absorbed.
      • She is only concerned about her self as she doesn't want to accept her faults or accept responsibility.
        • Fails to engage with the inspector therefore gains nothing from this message
          • 'I'm the only one that didn't give in'
            • She's saying it as if she is proud that she has kept a cold hearted face all long
