- France - Treaty of Etaples 1492
- 1. Imminent loss of Brittany in 1941 - H announced intentions to assert his claim to French crown
- 2. Oct 1942 - summoned parliament for £100k grant - English army (26k men) crossed Channel and laid siege on Boulonge
- 3. Charles (France) wanted to get rid of English aggressor (greater issues in Italy) - Charles offered peace to H
- 4. 3rd Nov - Treaty of Etaples - Charles vowed to not aid English rebels (esp Warbeck) + pay cost of H's intervening in Brittany (745k crown to be paid yearly)
- Failure - no independence for Brittany - all southern side of the Channel (ex Calais) French territory
- Success - prev Charles VIII helping Warbeck, annual French pension, treaty with Spain, showed England was not to be overlooked in Continental affairs

- Eng and Spain were rivals, but both had common animosity towards France
- 1488 - H suggested marriage of oldest son Arthur and Catherine of Aragon - demands about size of Catherine's dowry and not to help Eng rebels - Ferdinand agreed

- 1495 League of Venice - Pope Alexander VI, HRE Maximilian I, Aragon’s Ferdinand II, Venice, and Milan, in opposition to Charles VIII of France, who had invaded Italy in 1494. The allies forced the French out of Italy in 1496.
- Oct 1946 - Ferdinand and H concluded marriage agreement of Arthur and Catherine. In the same year, Ferdinand secured Eng into new 'Holy League' - on H's condition that H wouldn't go to war w/ France
- 1946 - League concluded, established trading relations between Eng and Burgundy (F)
