  • Good conduct
    • Why is good conduct important for Christians?
      • Sermon on the mount (Mat. 5-7) - Mat 5:16 shows good conduct glorifies God.
      • Mat. 22:35-40: Greatest command is to love God, second is to love your neighbor.
      • Brings the reward of entering heaven, avoids hell.
      • Faith in Jesus and following what he taught and behaved.
        • Paul's letter to Ephesians urges the learning of new moral behavior from Jesus (4:17-5:20)
    • Not all Christians agree on what good conduct is and why it's important
      • Some commands are seen as immoral
        • Paul's letter to Titus (2:9-10) appears to condone slavery.
        • Mat. 5:39 encourages pacifism - some think immoral as it doesn't defend innocent.
        • Mat. 19:9 divorce unless from unchastity is adultery - different interpretations
      • Some believe Christians should do right for right's sake (no heaven or hell involved)
      • Liberal Christians: Heaven and Hell psychological realities - good moral conduct create's God's kingdom here than afterlife.
