  • George Frideric Handel
    • 1685- 1759
    • Born in Germany (1685)
    • Interested in music at age of 18
    • 1707- Handel's first serious opera is performed.
    • Was appointed Kapellmeister to the elector in 1710.
      • Kapellmeister is the leader or conductor of an orchestra or choir.
      • Was given permission to go to London for a year.
        • Spent rest of life in London where he wrote some of his finest work.
    • Became  Royal composer for George the first in 1711
      • wrote Water Music (1717) for kings triumphant procession up the Thames.
    • When he grew older he began to lose his sight
    • Died in 1759 and was buried in Westminster Abbey.
