    • Love
      • That's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool
        • Daisy is saying real love is insignificant, and to be ignorant to the world around you is always better
      • If he left the room for a minute she'd look around uneasily and say, "where's Tom gone?"
        • Daisy follows Tom around like a lost puppy. She is also looking out for him and cares and loves him
    • Moral Decay
      • "Right you are," agreed the policeman... "I'll know you next time Mr Gatsby."
        • The police are not doing their job properly and are easily bribed by the rich
      • Gravely, the men turn in at a house - the wrong house - but no one knows the womans name and no one cares.
        • The men have left a drunk woman on a random door step so she is no longer their problem. They do not care about others.
    • Death
      • "you're a rotten driver"
        • Foreshadows to the accident
      • Autumn leaves
        • Nick describes Jordans hair to be like Autumn leaves which is when everything starts to die
      • Filled with faces dead and gone
        • Foreshadows Gatsby's and Myrtle's death as well as Tom and Daisy's disapearance
      • After Gatsby's death, the east was haunted for me like that
        • After Gatsby died, for Nick, East Egg became dull and boring as he no longer has someone with an extraodinary presence around
      • His ghostly heart
        • Gatsby died when Daisy left him. Foreshadows his death and also hints that it will be her fault
    • Idealism
      • I decided to go east and learn the bond business
        • Nick is an idealistic character who decides to move in order to achieve the american dream
      • He still views Gatsby as admirable even after he knows of all the bad things he's done
        • At the end of the novel after everything, he still describes Gatsby as being:
          • Worth the whole damn bunch
      • An extraordinary gift for hope, a romantic readiness such as I have never found in any other person
        • This is another way in which Nick describes Gatsby and shows us that Nick did really look up to Gatsby and found him a very admirable character whom was unique in his life
      • So we beat on borne back ceaselessly into the past
        • Fitzgerald is saying that Gatby's pursuit of his dream was ultimately useless. It does not matter how hard we all try, if we try too hard we will never achieve what we want and it will always be out of reach.
